Book stores in New York

When my co-workers ask me how my weekend was and my answer is that I went into town with a couple of girlfriends, they automatically assume that I went out clubbing or something cool like that.

Little do they know that this means, that I’ve been hitting my favorite book stores with my best friends. We are all pretty much introverts with a passion for books and love to spend time together.

Here are my favorite bookstores in New York:

Dumbo, Brooklyn:
Powerhouse Arena
37 Main St (Water St)

The Strand
Broadway & 12th St

Yet to be discovered:

Word Bookstore
126 Franklin St

West Village
400 Bleecker St

Since I still live in Amsterdam, here a list of my favorite Amsterdam bookstores when I can’t visit my faves in New York:

ABC Book Center
Spuistraat 12, Amsterdam

Kalverstraat 152, Amsterdam

What to do in Greenwich Village, New York

What if you’d have one day in glorious Greenwich Village?

With Broadway on the East, Hudson river to the West, Houston street to the South and 14th street to the North there is enough to discover.

Washington Square Park is the center of it all where you can take a breather and watch people go about their way. It’s also often a popular filming location for film and TV.

Favorite places to visit in the Village:

Bleecker Street:

  • Amy’s Bread
  • Magnolia Bakery
  • John’s Pizzeria
  • Murray’s Cheese Shop
  • CVS

MacDougal Street

And 11th Street:

  • Tartine’s for a Cappuccino outside when the weather is nice
  • Spotted Pig, 314 West 11th Street

Another favorite is Apothecary C.O. Bigelow. Liv Tyler is one of the regulars. It’s still in it’s 1800’s glory.

A few more impressions:

So when you visit New York, don’t skip this gorgeous area.

If you have recommendations for me to see on my next visit, please leave a comment. I’m looking forward to it!

I always find Broadway, no matter in what area I’m in. It breathes it’s own style and I love how I can find that style in the Financial District, Little Italy, Soho… and the Upper West Side.

This view from Soho looking down towards the Woolworth Building is one of my favorites in this world.

Two weeks ago I was here. Back in Amsterdam now but miss the city. It was such a wonderful trip and even though I was a little under the weather for a bit, I still had the best time.

I just spent two amazing weeks in New York. I rented two apartments, one in Greenwich Village, the other in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

When I stepped out of my Dumbo apartment, I walked a bit and had this view.

And people wonder why I need a few days to myself after I come home from NY. I miss it like crazy!
